The war on drugs is a failed policy. It has accomplished nothing while it has destroyed lives, destroyed communities, and wasted billions of tax dollars. It is time we acknowledge our mistake and correct our path.
Here are the first steps:
1) Legalize medical marijuana -- this is a decision to be made by you and your doctor. The evidence is clear that marijuana is a viable treatment option for several conditions and diseases. From veterans with PTSD and chronic pain, to children with epilepsy, medical marijuana has a role in treatment.
2) Allow states to decide on recreational marijuana. States like Washington and Colorado elected to legalize and tax recreational marijuana. They are using revenue from the sales to fund public schools and infrastructure.
Other states have decided against legalization. That is their choice to make. I support letting each state decide if recreational marijuana should be legal.
